2.0 out of 5 stars Version's only virtue is large type, May 19, 2006

If you don't mind a mind-boggling number of typo's and you need a large type version of Christian Prayer, this volume is for you. But if you do mind having your prayer disrupted by typo's and do not need large type, use a different version such as Pauline Books and Media Christian Prayer (ISBN 0819814482) instead. If large type is a necessity, Catholic Book Publishing has come out with a new four-volume set (ISBN 0899427103) in large type, but i have not used or seen one yet and at $195 a set, it is fairly pricey.

Many of Catholic Book Publishing's products are tainted by typo's. This is true of the four-volume Liturgy of the Hours, the one-volume Christian Prayer (small type), and other liturgical books, but the large type Christian Prayer is the worst offender I have encountered. An example follows from Psalm 36, p. 739:

"Yor love, Lord, reaches to heaven;
your truth to the skies.
Your injustice is like God's mountain,
your judgments like the deep."

If you look at the small type versions or any Bible, you will not find God being accused of injustice in Ps 36. This is one of many typo's in the large type edition and one that will be encountered every four weeks like clockwork when you pray morning prayer on wednesdays. Since Catholic Book Publishing got this one right in earlier editions, one wonders how this egregious typo crept into this version, and more importantly, why is this typo still there after being in print for 20 years now!?!

I keep my large print Christian Prayer in my car for emergencies (when i forget to bring my breviary with me) and use it very infrequently. I'd hate to throw it away, I'd hate to use it, and I'd hate to give it to someone else and saddle them with this typo-infested version. If this version is the only one you have or can get, by all means use it, otherwise, look elsewhere.

My husband & I pray morning & evening prayer together. He uses the four volume Litergy of the Hours. I prefer Christian Prayer. It's all in one book. I especially like the large print.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for personal and congregational use, July 18, 2007

I started going to morning prayer and noticed that everyone had there own book. I was using one of the ones provided by the church. I then decided by the end of that week that I need to get my own because I would like to do The Liturgy of the Hours prayer on my own if I could not go. So far I love the book. The only thing I do not like is that with the shorter type version, the hymns in the back have actual music with them. This volume just has the words. Other than that I am pleased. It seems too that the typos have been fixed.
